What is an impact report?
The impact report is a document that describes in a clear and measurable way the objectives, actions, and results achieved by a company in the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas. It is required for Benefit Corporations and highly recommended for companies oriented toward strategic sustainability or for companies that want to become B Corps.
What is the purpose of drafting an impact report?
An ESG impact report allows you to:
- report the company's actual positive contribution to the environment, community, people, and governance;
- communicate transparency and accountability to stakeholders;
- meet requirements to become a Benefit Corporation or obtain B Corp certification;
- strengthen your positioning in terms of ESG and sustainability.
Who is required to draft an impact report?
The impact report is mandatory for Benefit Corporations and must be attached to the annual financial statements each year. However, even non-benefit companies choose to draft it voluntarily to improve their sustainable governance and ESG credibility.
What is the difference between a sustainability report and an impact report?
- The sustainability report follows international standards (VSME, ESRS) and has a more extensive structure, useful for stakeholders and financial markets;
- the impact report is more streamlined, focused on specific common benefit objectives and the company's ESG actions.
Is an impact report required to obtain B Corp certification?
It is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended to:
- communicate the positive impact generated in a structured way;
- support the B Impact Assessment;
- facilitate the communication of your ESG commitment during the application process.
