How it works
The Amazon rainforest is the world's largest rainforest covering an area of 6.7 million km2 , unfortunately deforestation has been taking place for decades (since 1980 the forest area has decreased by 20%). A rainforest is a moist forest with frequent rainfall and lush vegetation. They are nicknamed the "lungs of the earth" because of the enormous amount of oxygen generated by photosynthesis processes. Envira Amazonia aims to protect the forest area by preventing fires from occurring and preserving the fragile ecosystem.
Where does it develop?
The project is located in Acre province, in the western part of the Amazon rainforest bordering Peru. Envira Amazonia allows the annual capture of 1.2 million tons of CO₂ while preserving 200,000 hectares of forest.CertificationsThe Amazon rainforest is the habitat of more than 2 million different animal species, Envira Amazonia by preserving its ecosystem has obtained Verra CCB (Climate, Community and Biodiversity) certification. Among the species in the forest several are endangered such as macaw parrots, jaguars and crowned eagles.
Benefits
Thanks to the funding received, Envira Amazonia has created several jobs ensuring a certain source of income for several families. The project has provided access to education for needy children and built new sanitation infrastructure in villages adjacent to the forest.
