Carbon neutral

Carbon neutrality(or carbon neutrality) is the condition in which CO₂ emissions released into the atmosphere by carrying out certain activities are balanced by an equivalent amount offset (removed or avoided), over a given period of time.
The goal is to zero out one's carbon footprint, making one's activities carbon free.

It is not only companies that become carbon neutral. In fact, this concept can also be applied to a product, a service, an event, a specific activity or even a person.
When used in companies as a climate mitigation strategy, carbon neutrality is calculated on an annual basis, and should be juxtaposed with long-term decarbonization plans with the goal of not only neutralizing their own emissions, but creating a positive effect for the planet by removing more CO₂ than is emitted.

The unit of measurement in the calculation of one's carbon footprint is CO₂ equivalent (CO₂ eq), which allows the emissions of all greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere to be compiled into a single figure. To denote it would be more correct to write CO₂ eq, but for brevity the form CO₂ is often used.
