Soil degradation

Land degradation refers to the reduction or complete loss of fertility and thus the economic capacity of the soil resource.

The degradation process is mainly related to biodiversity loss, climate change impacts, deforestation, and intensive agriculture.

Land degradation-the deterioration or loss of the productive capacity of soils for the present and the future-is a global challenge that affects everyone through food insecurity, rising food prices, climate change, environmental hazards, and loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Soil degradation is occurring at an alarming rate, and when soil is degraded, the carbon and nitrous oxide within it is released into the atmosphere.
