How it works
Funding and supporting this project means contributing to the proper reforestation and care of green areas. Healthy forests, well looked after in their growth path, help the planet adapt to a changing climate: a team of experts periodically carries out environmental assessments and impact surveys and, on the basis of the results obtained from the studies, develops management and monitoring plans for the restoration of natural systems. Thanks to the initiative, the biodiversity hosted by the area is protected through constant monitoring of the species that live there and the local population is involved with the "School Project": a programme of informative presentations and workshops aimed at teachers, students and members of the community to learn about the environment and the care of native fauna and flora.
Where does it develop?
The project is located in the north central region of Uruguay covering an area of 20,000 hectares, annually 127 thousand tons of CO₂ are captured.
Certifications
Guanarè monitors and protects the more than 320 animal species living in the project area, such as the southern long-nosed armadillo. Armadillos are endangered; in Uruguay we observe the last wild colonies of this species. Therefore, the project has obtained CCB (Climate, Community and Biodiversity) certification from Verra.
Benefits
Local people are involved with the "School Project": a program of informative presentations and workshops aimed at teachers, students, and community members to learn about the environment and the care of native fauna and flora.
