Colnago: Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculation, sustainability report, and Product Carbon Footprint
The challenge
Founded in 1954, Colnago is one of Italy's finest names in racing bicycle manufacturing.
For the company, excellence is inseparable from responsibility: sustainability is not a constraint but an opportunity to innovate in an authentic, deliberate way.
It is an integral part of the company's mission, a value reflected in every design decision.
On that foundation, in 2023 Colnago launched a structured sustainability program with Up2You. The partnership began with the calculation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and, the very next year, expanded to measuring Scope 3 emissions and producing a sustainability report. In 2025, Colnago took another step forward, choosing to calculate its Product Carbon Footprint in order to track the environmental impact of its bicycles ever more precisely across their entire life cycle.

Needs and objectives
Strengthen the brand's credibility
Colnago is synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and innovation. Today, quality also means attention to environmental and social impact.
Promoting these aspects strengthens the credibility of the brand in Italy and around the world.
Live up to expectations
The company works with athletes, collectors, and enthusiasts who are increasingly informed and deliberate about what they buy, asking for transparency, durability, and responsible choices.
A long-term view
Sustainability also means less waste, more efficient processes, and greater resilience. Launching this program is a strategic investment that prepares the company for the challenges ahead, including regulatory ones.
Initial challenges
Reconciling sustainability and excellence
Colnago's priority has always been building bicycles of the very highest caliber. The company worried that a superficial approach to sustainability could turn into greenwashing or become an obstacle to design freedom.
No dedicated ESG function
Colnago is a lean, highly specialized company that does not have a dedicated ESG function able to independently manage every stage of its sustainability work.
Why Colnago chose Up2You
- A scientific approach that delivers practical tools grounded in an internationally recognized methodology.
- A cultural and values fit between the two companies, which made for high-quality work built on serious collaboration.
- An ability to listen, adapt, and provide continuous hands-on support, which delivered solutions tailored to Colnago's needs.
The project
The project with Colnago began in 2023, when the company decided to embark on a structured program toward stronger environmental sustainability. The first step was calculating Scope 1 and 2 emissions for 2022, using CliMax, Up2You's proprietary platform.
In 2024, the work continued with an update to Scope 1 and 2 emissions and an extension of the analysis boundary to Scope 3 emissions. Colnago also chose voluntarily to get ahead of regulatory change and produce its own corporate sustainability report with Choral, Up2You's second proprietary platform. The decision reflects a long-range view: sustainability as a strategic lever for growth rather than a mere regulatory obligation.
In 2025, the company confirmed its commitment by renewing the partnership with Up2You. Once again, the Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations were updated and a new sustainability report was produced. Rounding out the picture, Colnago chose to take a further step in its program by launching the calculation of its Product Carbon Footprint.
Some activities are still underway, but the results are already clear. Over these years of collaboration, Colnago has translated its environmental commitment into hard, measurable data that has guided strategic and operational decisions and made it possible to pinpoint where to focus. That approach has also helped increase employee engagement and build sustainability into the core of the business, treating it not as a separate project but as a founding element of how the company works and innovates.
