The challenge

Geico
is a leading designer and manufacturer of turnkey automated systems for car body painting. Innovation sits at the center of its development model, understood as an ongoing collaboration between technology and people.

Sustainability is an integral part of Geico's corporate DNA, and it goes well beyond simply complying with regulation. The company treats cutting environmental impact as a strategic lever, not merely a compliance requirement. That commitment rests on a culture of respect, responsibility, and trust, with the aim of actively contributing to the development of the community, the protection of resources, and the improvement of the environment in which it operates.

With this in mind, Geico chose Up2You as a specialist partner to organize and optimize its data collection and carry out the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its own paint shop.

Needs and objectives

Measuring sustainability action

The company needed to translate technical solutions into hard numbers and charts, moving from abstract concepts to objective, measurable data.

Identifying the right measures for the business

Geico needed to pinpoint the highest-impact stages of its process in order to prioritize its strategic initiatives.

Getting ahead of customer requirements

In the automotive sector, OEMs (the automakers that build the vehicles) impose ever stricter sustainability standards. Geico, with its commitment to innovation, sets itself apart by anticipating those requirements through an LCA, showing its intent to promote a more responsible supply chain.

Initial challenges

Technical skills to build

The company had already launched several sustainability initiatives, but at the outset it lacked the in-house expertise to define the steps, timelines, and costs of an LCA with any precision. That gap became an opportunity to broaden its know-how and strengthen the team's technical capabilities.

Understanding which parameters to use

Running its first LCA on the paint curing oven, Geico ran straight into a demanding question: identifying the most appropriate parameters on which to base the study.

Interpreting the results

Analyzing the results called for specialist expertise, which made the support of qualified consultants essential to interpret them accurately.

Why Geico chose Up2You

  • A clear project proposal that spelled out the steps, resources, and timelines needed to run the analysis.
  • The ability to turn abstract concepts into practical action, supporting Geico as it moved from vision to measurable results.
  • A professional approach and a team ready to support the client at every stage of the sustainability journey.

Testimonial

Working with Up2You showed us that sustainability assessment standards can be handled in a simple, structured way.

Sustainability is not only measurable: it has to be. The results we now have will become a real reference point for how we design and run our systems.

This approach is one of the pillars of the Sustainable Paintshop, the strategic project that by 2030 will deliver a sustainable paint shop built on circular economy principles.

The project

The collaboration between Up2You and Geico began with an introductory workshop, designed to align everyone in the R&D department involved in the LCA and to create a shared knowledge base. The session covered the project's objectives and the strategic value of the LCA for the business, and it laid out each phase of the work, including timelines and the roles of the people involved.

After the workshop, Up2You analyzed and reworked the information gathered to pin down the parameters and boundaries of the analysis. This phase produced a clear methodological scope, agreed with the Geico team, ensuring the LCA answered the company's real technical and strategic needs.

The team then set up a dedicated data collection process involving the various business functions concerned. Up2You verified, consolidated, and organized the data Geico provided to make sure it was consistent, complete, and correctly used for the LCA.

Finally, Up2You processed and presented the results to Geico in a dedicated review session, walking through the methodology and the outputs in detail and giving the company a solid basis for future strategic decisions.
