UAE Team Emirates is the United Arab Emirates' first men's road cycling team to hold a UCI World Tour license.

The team joined the World Tour, the top tier of professional cycling, in early 2017 and went on to win the Tour de France in 2020 and 2021.

Alongside its athletic goals, UAE Team Emirates has taken major steps toward sustainability, with a program designed to reach Net Zero by the end of 2030, as announced at COP 28.

UAE Team Emirates came to us to calculate the carbon footprint of the organization and launch a decarbonization strategy, so it could reach its goal of Net Zero in 2030.

Solution


The program with UAE Team Emirates started with the calculation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions for 2022 and the offsetting that followed. The Up2You team then guided UAE Team Emirates through a series of training sessions, including one on communication, to help the team speak accurately about its climate work at COP 28.

Next steps include an updated calculation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions for 2023 and a detailed analysis of Scope 3 emissions.

Once the carbon footprint has been calculated, the decarbonization strategy for those emissions will be defined. Our team will also guide UAE Team Emirates through the validation process for its reduction targets with SBTi.
