The challenge
Founded in 1979, Panino Giusto is an Italian food retail company created with one goal: to make the sandwich a signature element of Italian culture, on par with pizza and pasta.
Sustainability has always been part of Panino Giusto's philosophy. Its focus on the social side in particular has defined the company's journey, from its commitment to employee well-being to projects dedicated to refugees and to women who have survived violence.
In recent years, the environmental dimension has taken on an increasingly central role as well. Panino Giusto became a Società Benefit (Italy's benefit corporation status) in 2019 and joined the B Corp community in 2020.
Panino Giusto chose Up2You as its partner for measuring its emissions. Drawing on Up2You's expertise and technology, the company calculated its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, drafted its GHG inventory, and developed the supplementary report for B Corp.

The project
The project with Panino Giusto began with an initial workshop that brought the entire company team up to speed on the objectives and the methodologies used in the reporting process.
When the work with Up2You started, Panino Giusto already had the information needed to calculate its carbon footprint. The joint effort therefore focused on tailoring the CliMax platform to calculate Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, with the aim of creating a reporting tool the company could reuse in future years with minimal changes. This phase, central to the whole program, called for active involvement from several parts of the Panino Giusto team, both to produce data that was as accurate and granular as possible and to keep the process fully transparent.
Once collection was complete, the data was processed to produce a reporting document compliant with the GHG Protocol, along with a supplementary report for B Corp.
The training masterclasses, run in parallel with the entire process, proved particularly valuable for Panino Giusto: they brought in staff who are not sustainability experts but hold key roles in running the business.
Thanks to the work done with Up2You on the CliMax platform, Panino Giusto now has a tool that helps it steer its environmental strategies. The information gathered can also be used to inform customers and raise awareness of the responsible choices the company has made, making its sustainability journey visible and easy to share.
