The challenge

Misitano & Stracuzzi
, founded in 1922, is an international leader in citrus processing and in the production of essential oils and juices formulated to each customer's specifications. At the heart of the company's strategy is a relentless drive for technological and quality progress, paired with a deep ethical culture rooted in respect for people and the environment.

Misitano & Stracuzzi's commitment to sustainability runs deep. What started as a focus on ethical and social responsibility has broadened over time into end-to-end sustainability management.

The company treats environmental monitoring and transparency as a strategic lever to get ahead of regulation and reinforce its competitive advantage, going well beyond basic compliance requirements. That commitment translates into a constant push for greater production efficiency.

With this in mind, Misitano & Stracuzzi chose Up2You as its specialist partner to build and optimize its sustainability program, drawing on the support of Up2You's expert consultants and a proprietary platform with AI built in.

Needs and objectives

Meet the demands of the market and of customers

Major international customers were asking for ever-higher sustainability standards. Misitano & Stracuzzi needed to meet those demands in order to position itself transparently and competitively in the market.

Unify and formalize the ESG strategy

The company wanted to bring its ethical, social, and environmental work together under a single integrated corporate policy. That step was essential to monitor performance efficiently and to set precise KPIs on which to base future action.

Get ahead of European regulation

Rather than waiting passively for new laws to land, the company set itself the strategic goal of moving ahead of the regulatory agenda. The aim was to be ready when the new rules arrived, turning sustainability into a driver of innovation.

Initial challenges

Regulatory complexity and uncertainty

At the start of the program, the constant evolution and complexity of the directives, especially at the European level, were a significant source of uncertainty. The company had to be certain that its initiatives were genuinely compliant and aligned with international regulations and guidelines.

Ensuring scientific, realistic measurement

Misitano & Stracuzzi was not willing to settle for rough estimates; it wanted reporting that was extremely precise. The main challenge was to treat environmental topics with an objective, scientifically grounded approach.

The Scope 3 hurdle and fragmented data

Reporting indirect (Scope 3) emissions was the biggest challenge of all, and at first it looked like a genuine roadblock. Gathering and standardizing granular data from across the company's various departments was a complex operation.

The project

Up2You and Misitano & Stracuzzi began working together several years ago, with the goal of calculating the Corporate Carbon Footprint through the CliMax module of the Up2You Platform. That step allowed the company to move past the fragmentation of its traditional processes, replacing manual data submissions with a fully digital, tailored workflow.

Starting in 2025, the scope of the project widened further to address the company's new challenges. Misitano & Stracuzzi began calculating its Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) directly in CliMax, extending the analysis from the organization to individual products. In parallel, Up2You began providing strategic guidance aimed at earning and then steadily improving the company's EcoVadis rating.

The results achieved have consolidated this collaboration into a structured, long-term partnership. Today the project continues with the annual update of the Corporate Carbon Footprint and ongoing support on the EcoVadis front, giving Misitano & Stracuzzi a current, robust set of data on which to build future strategic decisions and reinforce its competitive advantage in the market.
